Construction and Vastu: Vastu is an inherent energy concept of science. We cannot see energy with our naked eyes but we can realize and see its application in different forms and fashions. Universe is one of the beautiful creations of nature and everything stands alive only in the limelight of truth. The worthiness of a site is considered before selecting it. A natural slope towards the East provides overall well being whereas a slope towards the North is supposed to be a wealth generator. Vastu Shastra advocates a respectful distance from the neighbor’s house. Land that has a history of litigation behind it is best avoided. Vastu practitioners are partial to four sided plots like squares, rectangles and trapeziums. Triangular and circular plots are generally avoided due to their association with fire and air. Boundary wall: Compound walls should be of equal thickness on all four sides. The South and West walls can be made thicker as it can also prevent the afternoon sun from coming in with full fury. Garage: This is best constructed in the Northwest or Southeast corner of the plot. The main consideration is that the watchman should be able to get a good view of the entire plot. Water reservoir or tank: Northeast is the preferred direction for the water source. The bedroom is best placed in the Southwest of the house. The bed should be placed in middle of the room or southwest corner of the room. Beds should not touch Northern or Eastern walls. Sleep with head towards east or south. The best location for the kitchen is the southeast corner of the house. The Brahmastan occupies pride of place in any house designed according to the principles of Vastu. This is the central courtyard and is the energy center of the house. It is best left open to the sky if possible. Plants that are considered good luck include the fig, mango, jackfruit, banana, coconut, basil, ginger, coriander, water lotuses, roses, jasmine, sandalwood, frangipani and Ashoka tree. Beautiful fragrant flowers are essential for daily spiritual rituals as well as for decoration of the house and ladies hair.

A plot with all corners 90 degrees having two sides road front and back is a good plot. The open space left in North and east should be more than South and West. The maximum construction should be done in South, West and southwest portion of the plot. A pond or a water body should be placed in Northeast corner of the house. A house should be designed in such a way so that there is maximum entry of sunlight and proper cross ventilation. The entire opening should be made on the North and East Side of the house. Trees of any kind should not be grown in eastern or northern, northeast directions. Only small plant can be grown in North, east, Northeast. The hearth or oven must be arranged in eastern southeast direction of the entire house, in such a way that the person cooking faces east. The shadow of any tree should not fall on the house. Pictures of any war scenes, demons, one in anger, great men, gods, angels, necked men or women, beasts, birds, calamities, ghosts should not be placed in the house. Only favorable god is Malaxmi sitting on a lotus. Her photo or idol can be kept in the house. All the photos or statues fruits, flowers, conches, Purnakumbha, sacred foot mark, gems, lotus, well decorated people are favorable. The slope of the property should be from West to east or South to north.
