The word ‘metaphysics’ is notoriously hard
to define. Twentieth-century coinages like
‘meta-language’ and ‘metaphilosophy’ encourage the
impression that metaphysics is a study that somehow
“goes beyond” physics, a study devoted to matters
that transcend the mundane concerns of Newton and
Einstein and Heisenberg. This impression is
mistaken. The word ‘metaphysics’ is derived from a
collective title of the fourteen books by Aristotle
that we currently think of as making up “Aristotle's
Metaphysics.” Aristotle himself did not know the
word. (He had four names for the branch of
philosophy that is the subject-matter of
Metaphysics: ‘first philosophy’, ‘first science’,
‘wisdom’, and ‘theology’.) At least one hundred
years after Aristotle's death, an editor of his
works (in all probability, Andronicus of Rhodes)
entitled those fourteen books “Ta meta ta phusika”—“the
after the physicals” or “the ones after the physical
ones”—, the “physical ones” being the books
contained in what we now call Aristotle's Physics.
The title was probably meant to warn students of
Aristotle's philosophy that they should attempt
Metaphysics only after they had mastered “the
physical ones,” the books about nature or the
natural world—that is to say, about change, for
change is the defining feature of the natural world.
Metaphysics can be considered as the mother of all
the philosophies, religions and science topics; it
has in common with them three basic study areas:
“The being”, “God” and the “Knowledge science”.
Metaphysics means “beyond the physical world”,
people that is interested on this matter is looking
for, through this knowledge, the real path to
happiness, find a real understanding of themselves,
and get to know how life is ruled by certain laws in
order to stop being a victim of the circumstances.
Metaphysics has always being studied on all
universities, seminaries, and religious schools as
philosophy. But in the first half of the 20th
century, the Anglo-American doctor Emmet Fox made
public this science by putting it in simple terms,
making Metaphysics available for every kind of
people as the “Practice of the Presence of God
inside each one of us”. It has been intended to help
people to get rid of every single problem in life.
Metaphysics does not bring support to any extra
sensorial practice or any paranormal activity. The
basis of its instruction is the development of the
Divine Conscience on every student. Each student has
to be able of realize that the mind has a power that
can be used in a constructive way in life, also the
student has to be aware about the aspects of God,
aspects that can help us to eliminate from our lives
negative facets such as hate, imprudence,
depression, illness among others.
Metaphysics does not compete against any religion,
and whenever Metaphysics has been mistreated, the
answer has always been forgiveness, since this is
one of the lessons that Metaphysics teaches. |
